What are Neopixel Lightsabers?
Lightsabers are catagorized by the type of blade they use. The term Neopixel lightsaber is often used to describe lightsabers that have the LEDs inside the blade and can light up the whole blade with individual pixels. Just like video game pixels, this lets the blades display spectacular effects that are simply not possible with base-lit blades.
The most obvious effect is the classic power-on and power-off scrolling effect of the lightsabers from the movies. With a neopixel blade, the effect of the blade slowly extending is realized, as well as the reverse when shutting off the blade.
There's also various effects like flames, unstable blades, pre-ignition effects and more! The neopixel blade gives the ultimate lightsaber effect - the closest thing to a real lightsaber!
Advanced Saber Cores is also an important feature for Neopixel Lightsabers. These cores allow advanced features such as drag-and-drop programming, Bluetooth Control, and more fonts, effects and sounds!
Simply put, Neopixel Lightsabers are the best upgrade available for the most realistic and advanced lightsabers experience!
Pros and Cons of Neopixel Lightsabers
Understanding the benefits and the drawbacks of a neopixel lightsaber is important to making an informed purchase.
As mentioned above, the main benefits of a Pixel blades are:
- Extremely bright blades that are uniform across the whole blade
- The ability for the blade to perform special effects
- Advanced Cores that can be programmed, Use Bluetooth, Etc.
These blades look like they have been plucked from the movies and put directly into your hands - If you want the most flashy, movie-magic effects possible, then neopixel lightsabers are the choice for you!
The main downsides to neopixel lightsabers is the weight of the blade and battery drain. The neopixel strips are housed inside a thick 3mm blade, so the blade itself weights more - and over 100 LEDs throughout the blade as well add weight compared to an empty base-lit blade, which is 2mm thick (and empty).
The biggest downside however is the battery drain. With a base-lit lightsaber you'll get a few hours of play time on a charge. With a neo saber the battery charge is signifigantly decreased - about 45 minutes to an hour of playtime per charge.
The TLDR: Neopixel lightsabers look like the movies and can do spectacular blade effects. They have advanced core features such as programmability, adding new sounds, changing installed fonts, adding/changing effects. The downside is increased blade weight and less play time per battery charge.
One myth of Neopixel Lightsabers is that you cannot duel with them. However with Rebel Sabers - you're dueling fun is guaranteed! As mentioned we house the Neopixels in a 3mm blade. This is nearly indestructible and the pixels are further housed in diffusing foam for protection. If your neopixel blade fails from dueling - we will replace it!
